AiBC Terms of Use

What are AiBC tasks?

The AiBC tasks, provided as part of your English Online course or similar programmes, offer you extra opportunities to practise your language skills.

Who can use the AiBC tasks?

You can use these tasks if:

• you are aged 13 or older;

• you are a registered user of a participating British Council or partner platform;

• you follow all the rules for using the AiBC tasks.

Do you update or change the AiBC tasks?

Yes. AiBC features and tasks may change as learning content and the system are updated in order to make AiBC better.

How do you use my personal information?

Where we collect your personal information, we endeavour to only collect the minimum required to deliver the service effectively, and we store and process it securely to protect your privacy. For this reason, we recommend that you do not provide any personal data when you interact with the system.

How do you use my inputs?

By using the AiBC tasks, you agree that the British Council can use, free of charge, your written submissions, the recordings of your voice and the transcription of your speech for the purpose of providing feedback and for improving and developing the AiBC tasks and the AiBC system.

Safeguarding

AiBC tasks are not for sharing safeguarding concerns. Due to the pseudonymous nature of these tasks, we may not always be able to identify or follow up with individuals in relation to anything that has been shared. Please contact us directly at safeguarding.englishonline@britishcouncil.org to ensure any concerns are promptly addressed and appropriate support is provided. Your well-being is our priority, and we are committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment.

What can I do with the AiBC tasks?

We encourage you to use the AiBC tasks and AI-bot to practise your English skills and to view the videos, images and written information provided through the application (“British Council Content”) for your own personal and non-commercial use.

The AiBC tasks are designed for you to participate in the tasks yourself without help from other people. More than anything else, we want you to enjoy the tasks, learn and have some fun!

You must not use the AiBC tasks or British Council Content for any other purpose including:

1. letting other people use some or all of the AiBC tasks or British Council Content without our permission, including sharing the questions and answers or practice tasks.

2. copying, downloading, taking screenshots or photograph, or content scraping any part of the AiBC tasks or British Council Content.

3. republishing any AiBC tasks or British Council Content on another website or digital application.

4. changing any part of the AiBC tasks without our permission (this means you cannot translate, merge, adapt, vary, alter or modify, the whole or any part of the AiBC tasks nor permit the AiBC tasks or any part of it to be combined with, or become incorporated in any other programs).

5. using the AiBC tasks in a way which (i) breaks the law, (ii) is fraudulent (not telling the truth), (iii) is malicious (makes problems for the AiBC tasks or other people) or (iv) does not follow our rules for using the AiBC tasks.

6. infringing (ignoring) our intellectual property rights, or the rights of other people or companies (including by using our British Council Content or content from our partners without permission).

7. using racist, sexist, offensive, unkind or otherwise discriminatory or inappropriate language when using the AiBC tasks.

8. sharing personal identifiable or otherwise sensitive information during the AiBC tasks experience including, but not limited to personal details, your address, credit card or medical details. This is for your own protection. We do not need this information for the AiBC tasks and we prefer not to have it. Our AI-bot should not ask you for these details, and if it does, you should not provide them.

9. using the AiBC tasks for any purpose other than to learn English.

10. doing anything else that can cause damage to the AiBC tasks.

11. undermining or manipulating the system via means such as prompt engineering or jailbreaking to make it behave in ways other than those of providing an English practice experience.

12. reverse engineering the application for any purposes including but not limited to content sharing, prompt sharing, system manipulation, development of other systems.

13. using the system for commercial purposes without our express written permission.
