  • Designed for young learners aged 16–17: Fixed cohort-based courses with a predictable schedule, so students and parents always know what’s coming next.
  • One teacher, one group: Your teen will learn with a dedicated teacher and the same classmates throughout, building confidence and consistency. In the rare event of teacher illness or leave, a qualified substitute will step in.
  • All four IELTS skills covered: Listening, reading, writing and speaking plus mock tests and exam strategies.
  • Enhanced safeguarding: Parental consent required. All teachers are safeguarding-trained. Our online learning environment follows strict child protection policies.
  • Pre- and post-class exercises: Structured homework keeps your teen on track between live sessions.

* The teacher might be different in the case of private-class mock tests or in case of leave.

Preparing for IELTS with the British Council is easy

Step 1: Choose your course

Pick the course that matches the personal goals and schedule - All Skills (12 weeks), Speaking & Writing (7 weeks), or Holiday Intensive (2 weeks).
Step 2: Register with parental consent

A parent or guardian completes the registration and provides consent. Your teen’s fixed timetable and teacher are confirmed.
Step 3: Learn with a dedicated teacher

Your teen joins their group - a dedicated teacher and classmates every session - with structured exercises before and after class. If a teacher is unavailable due to illness or leave, a qualified substitute will cover the session.
Step 4: Take mock tests and build confidence

Practice under real test conditions and develop strategies to reach the IELTS band score you need.

How does it work?

How is this different from the adult IELTS Coach course?

The Teens course uses a fixed cohort model: your teen follows a set timetable and syllabus with the same group and teacher throughout. The adult course offers flexible scheduling and self-managed booking. The Teens course also includes enhanced safeguarding measures and requires parental consent.

What level does my teen need to join?

Students should be at CEFR B1 level or above.

Does my teen need parental consent to join?

Yes. A parent or legal guardian must provide consent before a student aged 16–17 can enrol. This is part of our enhanced safeguarding policy for young learners.

Are the teachers trained to work with young learners?

Yes. All IELTS Coach Teens teachers have completed mandatory safeguarding training and have been recruited following the British Council’s safer recruitment procedures.

Will my teen be in a class with adults?

No. IELTS Coach Teens classes are exclusively for students aged 16–17. Your teen will not be placed in a group with adult learners.

What if my teen turns 18 during the course?

Students must be aged 16 or 17 for the entire duration of the course - from the start date to the final class. If your teen will turn 18 before the course ends, they are not eligible to enrol in IELTS Coach Teens. In this case, we recommend waiting until they turn 18 and joining our IELTS Coach adult course, which offers flexible scheduling and the same expert IELTS preparation.

How do I register my teen?

Choose the course that suits your teen’s goals. You’ll complete the registration as their parent or guardian, providing consent as part of the process. Once registered, your teen’s timetable and teacher will be confirmed. Before registering, please ensure your teen will be aged 16 or 17 for the entire course duration - students who turn 18 during the course are not eligible. Once registered, your teen’s timetable and teacher will be confirmed.
