Help and support – English Online Course – UNDP

Live25 is a live stream language session that focuses on one aspect of English grammar or pronunciation. Taught by one of our expert British Council teachers, each live session is 25 minutes long. Live25 sessions will help you improve your grammar knowledge so that you can write and speak with more accuracy. You can book 4 Live25 sessions for 1 month of access.

In every Live25 Grammar session, your teacher will explain different areas of grammar going through what they mean and how to use them. Examples include the verb tenses (present, past and future), or those related to parts of speech (adverbs, prepositions, comparatives) or questions (question tags, question formation).

In every Live25 Pronunciation session, your teacher will demonstrate different aspects of pronunciation: sounds and their combinations, word stress, sentence stress and intonation. You will learn how to speak more naturally and how to understand fast-connected speech in English.

There are sessions at all different times of day and night, so you can join a Live25 at any time that suits you! 

Book a Live25 session by logging into your account. On your Home screen, scroll down to the bottom to find the Live25 section. You can join the Live25 session from a mobile or desktop device.

Before taking your first Live25 session, please make sure you have downloaded the free and secure Zoom software, which we use for our virtual classrooms. You can test your equipment here: https://www.zoom.us/test to ensure optimal class participation. 

Once you have successfully installed Zoom, just log into your English Online Self-Study account and go to ‘Home.’ You will see the section ‘Bookings’ on the right side in the ‘Your activity’ section. Click on the ‘Join’ button and you will be redirected to your online classroom where you must wait for the teacher to let you in.  

Remember: 

• The ‘Join’ button will only become available on the portal 15 minutes before your scheduled class time.  
• We recommend you join classes using a desktop or laptop device to ensure you can download the materials provided by the teacher at the end of the lesson.  

• Make sure to download and test your Zoom software before the class starts. On your Zoom account settings, you can Check for Updates before class and install any new features.  
• Your name on Zoom must be written in Latin letters and must be identical to the name available on your English Online account. This way teachers will know who you are and will let you join the class right away.  
• Test your earphones and microphone to make sure everything is working before your class starts.

When you book a class, the teacher commits to this timeslot and then spends time preparing for the class. Therefore, if you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice, unfortunately, it is not possible to book another Live25 session in the place of the session that you canceled.   

If you find that you need to cancel a Live25 session for any reason, you can do so on your ‘Home’ page, where you can see ‘Bookings’ on the right side, in the ‘Your activity’ section. Click on the ‘Booked’ button. A pop-up screen will appear and you can then choose to ‘Cancel booking’ from this tab.  

During your live online class, your teacher will share a presentation and useful materials for review. 

To ensure all students enjoy the best learning experience possible, we recommend you join classes from a desktop or laptop device, not a mobile or tablet. This is because if you join via mobile phone or tablet, Zoom does not allow document downloads due to an in-app restriction.

To access your course, you will need: 

• a desktop/laptop computer (preferred) or a mobile device (tablet, smartphone)
• a reliable Internet connection 
• a headset or headphones with a built-in microphone 
• a working webcam

Every time you complete 1 theme (all the online exercises included in the 6 lessons of that theme), you will be rewarded with a digital badge, which you can download or share with your network via LinkedIn, Whatsapp, Facebook or Twitter. Badges are a great way to track your progress and collect milestones on your English learning journey!

To view your badges, log in to your English Online Self-Study account and go to ‘Home.’ On the left side of your dashboard, you will see the section ‘Achievements.’ Click on the link below ‘Achievements.’

Click on your name in the top right-hand corner. You will see a drop-down menu including various options to choose from. 

• Profile: Select this option to update your profile information. Inside you will find:

• • Profile tab: select this option to update your profile photo. 
  • Communication tab: Select this option to update your communication preferences. 
  • Time zone options tab: Select this option to update your time zone or preferred time format (12-hour clock or 24-hour clock). 
  • Booking History tab: Select this option to see the Live25s you have booked. 

• Help section: Select this option to find the FAQs.  

No, it is not possible to share your account. English Online Self-Study accounts are linked to your individual details. Your English Online Self-Study account is unique and personalised for your individual needs.
